Unlike Used Commercial Vehicle sales, – South Africa’s new vehicle market delivered another month of strong performance in November 2025
The positive impact from an easing inflation, fuel price relief for November, a further drop in interest rate, and South Africa’s first credit rating upgrade in nearly two decades helped to keep up the strong performance in domestic vehicle sales. Export volumes decreased but remained strong due to a weaker global demand and renewed geopolitical tensions.
Before we get to the sales numbers I want to thank and give all credit to Naamsa for accurate, detailed and on time reporting.
Total domestic new vehicle sales reached 54 896 units in November 2025, increasing by 6 113 units, or 12,5% compared to November 2024. Year-to-date, the new vehicle market was 15,4% ahead of the corresponding period in 2024.
The new passenger car market recorded 39 158 units, an increase of 3 871 units, or 11,0% compared to November 2024. Car rental sales accounted for a humongous 21,2% of sales as the sector prepares for peak holiday.
Sales for medium and heavy trucks yet again reflected a mixed performance in November 2025. Medium commercial vehicles recorded 698 units versus the 702 units sold for November last year and Heavy commercial trucks at 1 992 units recorded an increase of 25 vehicles, or 1,3% compared to the 1 967 units sold in the corresponding month last year.
Vehicle exports recorded 35 848 units in November 2025, a decline off 1 437 units from the 37 285 units a year earlier. Year-to-date export volumes remained 5,6% ahead of the same period in 2024, demonstrating the sector’s durability even as global markets remain uneven.
South Africa hosted the G20 Summit
The 2025 G20 Summit in South Africa marked a historic milestone as the first ever held on African soil, despite geopolitical tensions.
Hosted in Johannesburg 22-23 November 2025, the summit carried the theme “Solidarity, Equality & Sustainability”. South Africa’s presidency emphasized industrialization, debt relief, climate change and universal partnership.
The African Union participated as a permanent member for the first time, underscoring Africa’s growing role in global governance.
Leaders pledged to strengthen global partnerships to tackle debt burdens, economic inequality, and environmental challenges.
Although the summit was overshadowed by the boycott of the United States and Argentina, 42 countries and institutions still attended the summit.
In summary, the G20 Summit in South Africa was a substantive achievement: it raised Africa’s voice in multilateral forums, advanced the Global South’s agenda, and highlighted fractures in global unity.
Fuel price to increase on 3 December
While November saw a welcome reduction in fuel prices, South Africa is looking at fuel price increase this month due to rising oil prices.
The Department of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has published the official fuel price adjustments that will be implemented on Wednesday, 3 December 2025.
From Wednesday, petrol users will see prices increase by 29 cents per litre, while diesel will be a much larger hike between 65 and 82 cents per litre.
This is how the price changes will reflect at the pumps.
| Fuel | Price (per litre) |
|---|---|
| Petrol 93 | R21.26 |
| Petrol 95 | R20.58 |
| Diesel 0.05% (wholesale) | R18.95 |
On this note of higher fuel prices we at CLC Trucks wish you all a Merry Christmas, safe travels and a wonderful holiday!
